Obituary:
Lois Evelyn Sumruld peacefully passed away on January 8, 2021 with her family by her side. Lois was born in Ava Missouri on August 13, 1937 to George and Gladys Walker. Her childhood and young adult life was spent in Ava, Missouri. In 1957 she moved to California with her than husband Bob Smith (deceased) to start a family business and her life in Exeter.
Lois worked with Continental telephone services in Exeter for 28 years and retired in 1987. The telephone company provided her with her “work” family and she remained close to all of her co-worker’s by organizing luncheons throughout the years. She then began the 2nd part of her career which was volunteering. She was a compassionate spirit whose passion was caring for others. She served as President and volunteer for over 18 years with the Exeter Community Service Guild (Pink Ladies). Volunteering each week at the Pink Ladies Thrift store she instantly made friends with anyone who visited the store.
She was a life- long charter member of the Exeter Eagles Auxiliary for over 27 years and served at Auxiliary President and participated in many fund raising events to support local charities. She came out of retirement to work at The Younger Set and Exeter Mercantile Store.
Lois met and married the love of her life RL Sumruld in August of 1985. Their 35 years of marriage gave our family and friends years of joy and laughter. They enjoyed spending time at their vacation home in Cayucos. They visited all the antiques and thrift stores along the California coast in her search of that rare item. She and her husband volunteered for many years at the annual The World Ag Expo in Tulare.
She is processed in death by her parents Gladys and George Walker, one brother Edward Walker, and two sisters Virginia Mary Medlock and Bonnie Davis. She is survived by her husband R.L. Sumruld, Children Kathy Kelsey, Marcia Lemons, Bruce Sumruld, Laura Sumruld, Kelly (Ronnie) Sing. Grandchildren: Amanda Subia, Alyssa Lopez, Corbin and Blake Lemons, John Marc Sumruld, Alanna and Wyatt Sing and Stacey Welch. Great Grandchildren Kaydence Stinebaugh, Olivia Lopez, MilaRae Padilla. Sister Emma Byerlee, Pat (Barbara) Walker. Several nieces and nephews that, she loved as her own.
Her Greatest Joy and Love was being MIMI to her grandchildren and great grand -children.
We would like to Thank of all of her friends for the love and support that we have received during this time. She loved each and every one of you. In lieu of flowers please send donation to Exeter Pink Ladies, 118 South E Street, Exeter, CA 93221.
