A Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 2:00-6:00 pm at Evans Miller Guinn Exeter Chapel. A Graveside service will be held Thursday, February 25 at 10:00 am at the Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery.

Obituary:
Pedro Colon Cartagena was born in Coamo Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. Raised by his grandmother and aunt, he migrated to the United States to work and eventually ended up in Lindsay, CA. In 1960, he accompanied his friend Pablo to Nochistlan, Zacatecas, Mexico. While there, he met the love of his life, Carmen Gonzalez. They ended up eloping, and she moved to the United States with him.

They were married 61 years and had 7 children. Patricia Carmen, Pedro Jr., Hector Luis, Lucy, Jose Guadalupe, Ramon and Carmen Cartagena. In addition, they have 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

He stayed strong at all times for his family to the very end. His favorite sports were baseball, boxing and lucha libre. His favorite baseball player was Roberto Clemente. He was very proud of his children's sports accomplishments. He used to like to joke a lot, share stories from his youth, enjoyed dancing with his daughters, and enjoyed music.

The majority of Pedro's working career was spent in farm labor. He toiled in heat and cold for over 60 years to deliver fruits and vegetables to the tables of American families, and families throughout the world. He worked in this back breaking labor until he retired. He enjoyed this work, and especially loved the connections he made with his fellow farm laborers. Those were the lasting relationships he kept until his final day on earth.

Pedro was very good with his hands and enjoyed doing carpentry work. He reconstructed 2 of his homes; adding a dining room and bedroom to accommodate his family of 9.

Some of the values that defined him were: He held to a policy of not eating until his children ate first. He loved deeply, cared strongly, and proudly raised those he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of working hard to achieve stability. He is already missed.

Criado por su abuela y su tía, emigró a los Estados Unidos para trabajar y finalmente terminó en Lindsay, CA. En 1960 acompañó a su amigo Pablo a Nochistlán, Zacatecas, México. Mientras estaba allí, conoció al amor de su vida, Carmen González. Terminaron fugándose y ella se mudó con él a Estados Unidos.


Estuvieron casados ​​por 61 años y tuvieron 7 hijos. Patricia Carmen, Pedro Jr., Héctor Luis, Lucy, José Guadalupe, Ramón y Carmen Cartagena. Además, tienen 13 nietos y 6 bisnietos.


Se mantuvo fuerte en todo momento por su familia hasta el final. Sus deportes favoritos eran el béisbol, el boxeo y la lucha libre. Estaba muy orgulloso de los logros deportivos de sus hijos. Le gustaba mucho bromear, compartir historias de su juventud, disfrutar bailando con sus hijas y disfrutar de la música.


La mayor parte de la carrera laboral de Pedro se gastó en labores agrícolas. Trabajó en calor y frío durante más de 60 años para llevar frutas y verduras a las mesas de familias estadounidenses y familias de todo el mundo. Trabajó en este trabajo agotador hasta que se jubiló. Disfrutaba de este trabajo y, en especial, amaba las conexiones que hacía con sus compañeros trabajadores agrícolas. Esas fueron las relaciones duraderas que mantuvo hasta su último día en la tierra.


Pedro era muy bueno con las manos y disfrutaba haciendo trabajos de carpintería. Reconstruyó 2 de sus casas; agregando un comedor y un dormitorio para acomodar a su familia de 9.


Algunos de los valores que lo definieron fueron: Mantuvo la política de no comer hasta que sus hijos comieran primero. Amaba profundamente, se preocupaba mucho y criaba con orgullo a quienes amaba. Deja un legado de trabajo duro para lograr la estabilidad. Ya lo extrañamos.
