Obituary:
Richard Dale Elliott passed away February 13, 2022, in Tulare, California at the age of 89. He was born to Knight Aaron Elliott and Effie Margaret Guy Elliott on August 5, 1932, in Visalia, California. He graduated from Visalia Union High School in 1950, and shortly after joined the Navy where he served his country until 1954. While on leave from the Navy, he met Karol Virginia Ketner, who would be his wife for over 56 years.
Richard worked for the Southern California Edison Company until his retirement. Retirement was not for him, so he began building houses with his close friend Basil, in Three Rivers, California. Richard loved the mountains, and was an avid backpacker, camper, and motorcycle rider. Besides his family he genuinely loved all animals, and sharing oranges from his backyard tree.
Richard could fix just about anything. He spent hours at The First Baptist Church finding things to repair. He could even be found at the neighbors or family homes getting stuff working again.
He would help anyone in need and was always the funniest person in the room. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Karol Virginia Ketner Elliott, his son in law Ross Hirayama, niece Jana Ketner Evans, and sister in law Evelyn Elliott.
He is survived by his brother Knight Edward Elliott (Bud), daughters; Gina Elliott Hirayama of Tulare, Lisa Elliott Guinn (Mike) of Visalia. He was blessed with six grandchildren: Buddy Hirayama (Jeanette), Bryan Hirayama (Tritia), Barry Hirayama (Noriko), Brooke Hirayama Sorensen (Jake), Ashley Guinn Maze (Jason), and Jacob Guinn (Chelsea), and fourteen great grandchildren, as well as his nieces and nephews.

Such an amazing soul. We loved him as our own family member. Always kept us laughing, and entertained with his crazy stories. He loved his hot chocolate, Pepsi’s and veggie straws (which he would call pretzels). He was so spoiled, and loved very much. I just want to give my condolences.

Sweet, sweet Richard. Yes you will be missed. Truly, one of the nicest men I have ever met. A true example of a Christian and a good man. Always a smile and always there to help.

To Richards Family ….. My mom and I send our heartfelt condolences at the passing of Richard . We came to know him from being my dad Les Downing’s roommate at Twin Oaks for many months . He was always very friendly and making jokes to the workers and sometimes us . He greeted us each time we visited . They actually passed away within 12 days of each other . Prayers of comfort and peace to your family today and in the days ahead . Gina or Lisa I met one of you on one of our visits . Please contact me if you are willing as I’d love to speak to you . Blessings at this time of loss , Brenda Bethel and Helen Downing bbethel0638@comcast.net
