Obituary:
Sandy Rodriguez

Sandra (Sandy) Helen Rodriguez, aged 63, of Exeter, California went home to be with the Lord on February 14, 2022. A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at the Church of God of Exeter, at 3:00 pm on April 9, 2022.

Sandy Rodriguez was born in Denver, Colorado. She was the 15th of 16 children born to Andrew and Micaela Rodriguez. She grew up in Denver and attended school at the Hope Center in Denver until she was 16 years old, and then worked in a sheltered workshop. In 1999, Sandy and her mom went to live with Sandy’s sister, Jovita in Grants Pass Oregon. Then in 2001, Sandy moved to Wilburton, Oklahoma to live with Sandy’s sister Linda. While in Wilburton, Sandy worked at the local sheltered workshop, and she attended church with her sister at the Wilburton Church of Christ.

Then, in 2006, Sandy went to live with her sister Rose in Exeter, California. She attended the Creative Center in Visalia, where she studied art, music, and a number of other subjects. Sandy went to the movies almost every Friday with her best friend, April Stout. She bowled with the Visalia’s Finest bowling league on Saturday afternoons and earned many trophies at the bowling alley. Sandy also participated in the Special Olympics. She was well known at her church, the Church of God of Exeter, and in her community.

Later, Sandy began to experience some health issues, and was moved to a group home in Visalia, California. While recovering from a fractured hip, she was moved to the Porterville Convalescent Hospital, and after more than a year was again moved to a group home near Lindsay, California. After a few months, Sandy’s body began to shut down, and she died peacefully in her sleep on February 14, 2021.

Sandy will always be remembered as a fun-loving and happy girl. She freely gave hugs, even to perfect strangers. Some of her favorite things were word puzzles, coloring books, Elvis Presley, WWE wrestling, Battlestar Galactica, Sprite, and spaghetti and meatballs. Most of all, Sandy loved her birthday. In almost every conversation with her, she would bring up the fact that, “My birthday’s coming up!”, even if it’s not for another 10 months. It’s very fitting that Sandy lived to see one last birthday (her 63rd), before passing away on the following day.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Micaela and Andrew Rodriguez; by her brothers: Johnny, Richard, Danny, Andrew, and Gerald; and by her sisters Susie, Linda, and Amelia. She is survived by her brothers: Victor Rodriguez (wife Charlotte), and Dave Rodriguez (wife Yvonne); by her sisters: Jovita Walker (husband Marlon), Pauline Disinger (husband Gene), Mary Williams (husband Mike), Rose Bjarke (husband George), and Juanita Williams (husband John); and by a large number of nieces and nephews. Sandy will be greatly missed by all.
