Two services will be held, a Potluck Revival on Saturday, April 14 2012 starting at 5:00 PM at 168o9 Avenue 264 in Visalia, (559) 594-4872 or (559) 737-3287. A Memorial and Luncheon will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Noon at Rocky Hill Community Church, 259 South E Street in Exeter, (559) 592-4800.

Obituary:
Richard James Phillips, DDS, affectionately know as “Pop” was born in Healdsburg CA on August 16, 1918 to Walter and Nina (Brown) Phillips. He passed away on March 15, 2012 at home in Visalia CA. He attended High School in La Crescenta CA. Richard was a decorated Captain in the United States Army, serving in WWII stateside and in the South Pacific. He received his degree at Stanford University and then attended dental school at USC in Southern California. Richard lived many years in San Fernando Valley where his practice was. He also lived in Westlake Village and Hemet before moving to Exeter in 2003. Richard was a talented carver, a member of the Carvers Club and won many awards and amazed many family member and friends with beautifully carved gifts. He also was a member of the Lazy Daze motorhome club and he and his wife Joyce traveled extensively. Richard and Joyce were members of Exeter Methodist Church. He also attended other local churches with his son and daughter in law including Rocky Hill Community Church where the service will be held.
Richard retired at the age of 65 after being a dentist in the city of Woodland Hills of over 40 years. (He started practice and 10 years later his older brother Walt Phillips joined him as a partner.) His wife Joyce was his assistant. He trained her, and then, when he married her on December 8, 1973 in Las Vegas NV, he fired her.
Richard is preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Bowels Phillips, his parents, brother Walt Phillips and his son Richard James Phillips Jr. and Granddaughter Dyan M. Putnam. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Joyce Yvonne Phillips of Visalia, children Steven Leroy Phillips and wife in law Diane Phillips, Grandchildren Jennifer Powell, Heather Lunceford, Michelle Rogers, Wendi Putnam Penni Putman Phillips, Nancy Kay Brown and husband Jeffrey Brown, and daughter in law Karen Phillips, his sister, Susana Loughman, Nancy Lycett, Brenda Phillips, David Phillips, Michelle Jensen and Jeffrey Knaggs, 26 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Richard also leaves behind his beloved caregivers and friends Lori Combs, Nancy Rivas and Irma Ramirez.
