Obituary:
Shirley was born to Richard and Maggie Carter in Horn Lake, Mississippi, the fifth of six children on March 27, 1933. She attended school at Horn Lake Consolidated School and graduated with honors in 1951. Following High School she attended The University of Tennessee. Shirley later moved to Sanger, California where she lived for awhile with her sister and brother in law, Dorothy and Warren Miller. At that time she worked at Sanger Hospital in the business office. She went from there to Exeter Memorial Hospital where she worked for several years.
Shirley married Willard Miller, Warren’s twin brother. Willard was manager of Security Pacific National Bank, Exeter Branch. After several years in Exeter, Willard was transferred to Stockton at which time Shirley was accepted as office manager of Lodi Hospital. Where ever Shirley lived, she sang in the choirs and taught Sunday School in the Churches she attended. She and Willard proudly raised four wonderful children, Stephen, Connie, Phillip and Kimberly. They also have many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved each one of them.
Shirley was a member of Assistance League of Stockton and was always favored as the one who introduced the Celebrity Speakers. She has attended many churches in her travels, but was baptized in the Baptist Church of Stockton. She was sprinkled and given to the Lord in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Lake Comorant, Mississippi at the age 10. She has always considered herself a devout Christian and loved her Lord.
For the last years of Shirley’s life, she was glad to re-establish her home with Willard in Exeter, where she has lived since. They attended the First Baptist Church where they went many years ago and where three of their children were baptized.
