Obituary:
Robert Wesley Morrow, 91, of Exeter went to his Heavenly Home on May 30, 2017. He was born August 1, 1925, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Robert and Sophia Morrow. Bob is survived by his wife of 37 years, Velma; sons Robert, Jr. (Karen) of Maui, HI and Gary (Patti) of Bakersfield; daughter, Deborah Bice, of Bakersfield; five granddaughters (Debra Jones, Megan, Elizabeth, Emily, and Olivia Morrow), two grandsons (Cameron and Bryce Morrow), and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents; the mother of his children, Hyla; son, Jay; and daughter, Melody.
Mr. Morrow enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 during WWII serving as a Machinist Mate 2nd Class in the Seabees. He was on Iwo Jima at the raising of the flag, and was in Japan soon after the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.
He was an original oilman starting as a roughneck in the oil fields of West Texas and ending as a production foreman for the Belridge Oil/Shell Oil Company in Lost Hills where he worked for 35 years. After his retirement, he moved to Porterville to a small ranch where he spent many happy hours tending his garden and riding/caring for his horses. During this time, he was an active member of Landmark Christian Church where he served on the Board and as an usher.
