Obituary:
Romayne June Reisetter Thompson passed away May 28, 2021 surrounded by her loving family, a month shy of her 93rd birthday. She was the daughter of Clarence O. Reisetter and Vernie Stukenberg Reisetter and was born June 23, l928 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was happily married to Gerald Earl Thompson, and they would have celebrated their 75th anniversary on August 4th this year. Romayne graduated from North High School in Des Moines and moved to California with her husband, one week after their marriage in 1946. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Gerald; their daughter, Leslie Thompson Coggin and her husband Dave; and their two sons, Steven and his wife Eloise, and Scott and his fiancée Maude Stearns. Her grandsons are Keith Coggin and Kenneth Coggin and his wife Dawna Driver Coggin. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Loralyn and Alayne Thompson, and two great grandchildren, Ephram and Abbie.
Romayne taught English at North High School in Torrance for 25 years. She received an associate’s degree from El Camino College, a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Long Beach, and a master’s degree from the University of Southern California. She graduated magna cum laude and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She was the English Department Chairman for eighteen years, as well as the Gifted and Talented (GATE) Coordinator for many years. She was also a mentor teacher for nine years. In l985-86, she was selected by the Torrance Unified School District to be their Teacher of the Year.
Romayne enjoyed reading, fishing, and golf. She belonged to the AAUW Beach Cities where she donated her time to help with their annual Authors’ Luncheon. She also enjoyed the Kings’ hockey games, and she and her husband, son, and granddaughters have had season tickets for 32 years.
Interment will be at Three Rivers, California, where the Thompsons have their second home. Services will be private. She was a member of the Torrance First Baptist Church.
