Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 18 from 4-6 at Evans Miller Guinn E eyed Chapel, 425 Kaweah Drive in Exeter, California. Services will be held at Church if the Firstborn in Tulare on Monday, June 19, 2023 at 10:30 am. Interment services will follow at Tulare Public Cemetery, 900 E. Kern Street in Tulare, CA.
Obituary:
Hazel Shirley Wright passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 in Tulare, California. She was 91. She was born in Olympia, Washington to Cecil Howard Rossiter and Mable Elizabeth Fitzjerrald Rossiter on November 26, 1931. Her family traveled extensively looking for work. Hazel was three when her family settled in Tulare, California. She was educated in Tulare schools. She was a longtime member of the Church of the Firstborn. Bro. Johnny Corter baptized her on June 23, 1943. On April 3, 1948 she married Albert Overacker and they made their home in the Tulare area. To this union five children were born, Connie Lee, Alfred Louis, Michael Eugene, Sandra Kay, and David Lee. Albert passed away on June 25, 1981. She married Bro. George Wright in November of 1984. He passed away on July 1, 2011. She enjoyed cake decorating, camping, and playing dominoes with the sisters of the church and anyone she could talk into a game. She enjoyed making corn dogs for church functions and was famous for her homemade butterfinger ice cream. Hazel worked during hay harvest and was one of the best hay boom operators around. She also worked at the cotton gin during cotton harvest and worked many a county fair making corn dogs. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert, her daughter Connie, her son Michael, her son-in- law Bruce, her husband George, her son Alford and a sister Reva Jean. She is survived by her daughter Sandy and her son David and his wife Cheryl, two daughter-in-laws Sonya and Joyce, her brothers Melvin and his wife Evelyn and Joe and his wife Imajean, 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 25 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Hazel is also survived by her husband George's family, Gene and wife Cora, Terry and wife Rhonda, Sharon Kasten and husband Ken, Glenn and wife Vanessa, Darin and daughter-in- law Michelle, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
