Obituary:
Dominga Soliz Mendivil, 81, of Farmersville, California, a beacon of warmth and kindness, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 11, 2024. She was born on January 9, 1943, in Poteet, Texas, to Victor Soliz and Gregoria Mendez Soliz.

At the age of two, Dominga faced the loss of her father and was wholeheartedly raised by her mother alongside her nine siblings. Her early years were spent as a farm laborer, working diligently to support her family. They traveled across the United States to work picking cotton, and various fruits and vegetables; however, Poteet would remain close to her heart throughout her life. Despite only attending school until the third grade, Dominga blossomed in resilience and determination to always propel forward.

Dominga’s life was a tapestry of love and care for everyone around her, despite any struggles she always embraced a nurturing role. At the age of 12, Dominga assisted her mother in raising her niece Erna who remained by her side until the very end.

In May of 1966, Dominga moved to California at the age of 23, continuing to work in agriculture to support her family. There, she met the love of her life, Brijido Mendivil, and they married on June 6, 1970, in Visalia, CA.

Dominga was an extraordinary woman, a true jack of all trades with an unending desire to learn. She was a gifted craftsman, capable of building anything that came to mind, whether it be woodwork, mini-sculptured monuments, playhouses, or chairs for her children and grandchildren. She was a self-taught seamstress, designing and crocheting beautiful clothing for herself, her mother, and her niece. Eventually, she created her daughter's prom dresses. Her keen eye and care for everything she did will resonate with her soul and remain a long-lasting memory of her.

Her culinary skills were renowned, with neighbors and friends affectionately calling her “Tia” for her generosity. Dominga’s cooking, from tortillas to tamales to menudo, was imbued with love, making every meal a cherished experience. Alongside her husband, Dominga brough beauty to the world by cultivating a bountiful garden of roses, fruits, and vegetables, showcasing her green thumb and love for nurturing life.

Dominga exemplified the true spirit of being a supporter and a giver. Her generous heart and radiant smile left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her most treasured achievement was her four children, whom she loved unconditionally and were her entire world. Her home was filled with laughter and love, she enjoyed cooking, telling stories, and making arts and crafts with her children. Her children’s fondest memories with her were painting, crocheting, and planting in the garden. She cared for her children endlessly, especially her youngest son Maxi, who she took care of for 41 years. Dominga loved going to the casino with her youngest son, husband, and her brother Max. It was Dominga’s pride and joy to spend quality time with those she loved. Dominga also extended her love to her nine grandchildren, as she never missed a graduation, and made various crafts for them like Winnie the Pooh and Raider’s chairs, handmade blankets for each child and grandchild, and hand-cut steel flowers. Dominga was so proud of her children and grandchildren, always encouraging them to do their best.

Dominga's legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering support will forever be remembered and celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She was an ideal example of what it means to be a supporter and a giver, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. We will never forget you, Dominga. You showed us so many wonderful things throughout the years. How to love unconditionally, have patience, and how to live life always smiling.

Dominga is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, “her honey” Brijido Mendivil; her beloved children, Manuel, Delores, Gregoria. Her cherished grandchildren; Alexa, Destiny, Sayda, Manuel, Xavier, Karyme, Christian, Gabriel, and Noah. Two siblings, Josephina Rangel, Merse Soliz, and Neice Erna Moreno.

Dominga was preceded in death by her parents, her 7 siblings. Dominga is now resting in peace alongside her son Maximiliano Mendivil or as she would refer to him as, “El amor de Su Vida.”

Although you are no longer with us, it is not time to say goodbye. Instead, as you would always say, “I’ll see you.”
