Obituary: Stanley Lawrence Cosart was born to William & Gladys Cosart in Visalia California on July 23, 1932. He went to be with the Lord on September 18, 2024. He was a 3 rd general Farmer in Exeter. Stan grew up being active in his community. He was a Boy Scout climbing to the highest honor of Eagle Scout. In 1947, he was chosen out of 30,000 applicants to represent Rural USA at the World Scout Jamboree in Moisson France. On September 4, 1952, Stanley married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Self and received his draft notice the same day. Stanley and Virginia soon left for Fort Bliss in El Paso Texas for two years while he served as a Radar Tech for the U S Army, returning to Exeter in December 1954 in time for the birth of their first child, David. Stan was civic minded, fighting for water rights, and an integral part of the fruit industry and his community. Serving as director for many organizations including Blue Anchor Inc., the California Grape and Tree Fruit League, Valley Federal Land Bank, Commissioner of the California Table Grape Commission, Tulare County Sheriff Posse, Exeter Kiwanis Club, founding member of Exeter Hospital District – Ambulance, Exeter Irrigation District, The Friant Water authority and the Visalia Vapor Trailer Hot Rod Club, where he had the honor of being featured on the cover of Hot Rod magazine. Following in his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps Stan became a Mason. Going through the chairs and becoming Master of the Exeter Lodge in 1964. He had the honor of being named Exeter’s Man of the Year in 1985. Stanley had a passion for hunting Moose, Caribou, deer, Elk, Bear, Mountain Goat and Sheep, Ducks, and some exotic animals. These hunts became more about sharing stories than the actual hunt. The adventures took him from Alaska, to Canada, Africa, and New Zealand. He shared this love with his family, taking one or two on many of the trips. At least one Moose trophy made it into the Boone and Crocket record book as did his Alaska Brown Bear. Stan took pride in showing off his trophy room also known as “The Animal House”. He loved sharing a story or two behind each animal. Stanley is survived by his loving family, long-time partner, Betty Jo Campbell, his 3 children, David Cosart (Jan), Karen Stroben, (Mike), and Keith Cosart, (Tracy), his 7 grandchildren, Charles, Steven, Rebecca, Kelly, Shea, Jeffrey and Dustin, and 9 great-grandchildren Braden, Carly, Owen, Eleanor, Carter, Granger, Barrett, Cameron and Jessie.
