Obituary:
David Nicholas Lombard, aged 74, a resident of Ivanhoe for over 44 years, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 3, 2025. He was under the loving care of his family and, for a short time, American Quality Life Hospice, following a 2-year battle with colon cancer.

David was born in 1950 in Big Spring, Texas, to parents Ernest and Iva Dell Lombard. The Lombard family lived in Exeter for a time where David attended Sierra View Jr. Academy before moving west to Armona. David graduated from Armona Union Academy’s class of 1968. That Fall, David pursued a bachelor’s degree in fine art from La Sierra College at Loma Linda University in Riverside, CA. David graduated with his B.A. in 1973 as a gifted sculptor and painter. A natural talent he would always deny. While earning his way through college, he had his “side hobbies” like his 1966 Corvette, his 1957 Chevy and his 1956 Chevy Cameo pickup truck. His artistic talents were used for a lifetime of auto body repair and classic car restorations.

On November 3, 1973, in Reseda, California, David met his new best friend & soon-to-be wife, Carolyn Williamson, as a “blind date”. She says, if it is possible, “it was love at first sight”. David proposed on Valentine’s Day1974, and they married in May, in Northridge, California. They moved to the Visalia area in 1980. This is the same home in which Dave and Carolyn still lived at his death on Feb 3. In 2008.

David was an active member of the Visalia Seventh-day Adventist Church for over 44 years serving as Deacon and Elder and was always willing to pitch in. Mission trips to Mexico and serving with the Life Hope Centers were a real blessing. His faith was profoundly important to him, and his deepest desire was for others to know and love Jesus Christ as he did. His relationship with Christ is what sustained him and Carolyn over the last 2 years and especially the last couple of months.

David is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of 50 years, 8 months, and 8 days (but who’s counting) and their children: Pastor Jason Lombard, (Gina) from Laurel, Maryland; Erin Foll (Craig) from Visalia, California; Cecilia Lombard from Reno, Nevada; and Marine LCpl Matthew Lombard from Camp LaJeune, North Carolina. He is also survived by five grandchildren who affectionately called him "Papa": Zachary Foll (16), Garrett Lombard (16), Aleah Foll (14), Benjamin Lombard (13), and Jonathan Foll (12). Additionally, David is survived by his siblings: Pauline Kelly of Visalia, California; Dr. Ken Lombard (Julie) of Freeport, Maine; Tanya Shelter (Loren) of Ruckersville, Virginia; Lyle Lombard (Vicki) of Fate, Texas; Pastor Marc Lombard (Lisa) of Cleburne, Texas; and Aimee Masari (John) of Glendale, California as well as step-mother, Beverly Lombard of Cleburn, Texas. There are too many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins to mention by name but he loved them all.

We, as David’s immediate family, are SO grateful and humbled by the generosity and support received from extended family, friends, neighbors, church family, doctors, nurses and hospice workers. It was David’s request that, in lieu of flowers, a memorial gift be made to any one of his favorite charities, and there were many:

Adventist World Radio (AWR.org) EducareNow (EducareNow.org)
Sierra View Junior Academy (svja.org) Monterey Bay Academy (MontereyBayAcademy.org)
Armona Union Academy (AUAweb.com) My Promise FM-89.7 (MyPromiseFM.com)
Voice of Prophecy (VoiceOfProphecy.org) Amazing Facts (AmazingFacts.org)

David’s heart desire was always to put others first, as much as possible, to be a servant, to be kind, to love God and give Him the glory He deserves “because He first loved us” (1 John 1:19), and “to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8). David was certainly not perfect but through his example of a life well-lived, he challenges each and every one of us to go and do likewise. At the second coming of Jesus, David and Carolyn agreed to look for each other AND, he’ll be looking for YOU there, too.

Rest in peace, my love. You will forever be in my heart. Can't wait for that glorious "gettin' up morning" when we get to see the face of Jesus together.
