Obituary:
Debra (Debbie) Lynn Blyly Kulick was born in South Bend, Indiana on October 1, 1955 and passed away in her home on February 28, 2025 at the age of 69 after bravely and gracefully fighting glioblastoma for two years.

Debbie is survived by her husband George, son John, daughter Maryrose, brother Steve, father Larry, her lap cat Charlie, and many friends. She grew up in Hartford, Michigan, where she spent her youth riding horses, playing music, swimming with friends, and helping her parents Lois and Larry run their bait and equipment store.

Debbie was a top student - she graduated from Hartford High School in 1974 as class valedictorian. She went on to study veterinary medicine at Michigan State (Go Green!), and completed her veterinary residency at UC Davis in California. A Jill of all trades, she later harnessed her love of puzzles and numbers to become a licensed CPA. She was the go-to for many in her community for taxes and bookkeeping. She was also a skilled seamstress, and could knit, crochet, or sew anything she set her mind to, from Halloween costumes for her kids to intricate quilts.

One of Debbie’s biggest passions was travel. In her 20’s, she spent time in Europe and Asia, visiting and travelling with friends. In 1984, on her return trip from Japan, she met George in the Los Angeles airport. She was living in Davis, and he was living in Willows. Eventually, Debbie reached out to George for a date, and they became fast friends. They were married on December 28, 1985 after moving to Susanville, California.

During 39 years of marriage, Debbie and George lived all over the country, including Maryland, New Mexico, Virginia, and Georgia, making many friends along the way, before finally landing in Three Rivers, California. Debbie was always up for new adventures. Together, she and George visited all 50 states, and Debbie added many stamps to her National Park passport book. In 2023, they took a train trip across Canada and a cruise on the Rhine River.

In recent years, you could find Debbie going for walks in her neighborhood, playing the piano and organ for her church, rooting for her favorite football teams the 49er’s and the Spartans, tending her garden, bird watching, reading Lord of the Rings and other fantasy novels, and playing Wordle and sudoku. She and George spent peaceful days on the central coast in Morro Bay and up high at Park Ridge Fire lookout tower in Kings Canyon NP, admiring 6:05 pm sunsets. She loved and supported her children John and Maryrose and took great care of her parents Lois and Larry. Debbie will be remembered for her quick wit, her strong practicality, and her devotion to her family and friends. She is dearly missed.
