Obituary:
Loyd Mayben was born in the Ozark Mountains near Pangburn, Arkansas, on April 5, 1943, to Elsie Pearl and Henry Jewell Mayben. He moved to California in 1948 with his family and settled in the small community of Tooleville. After a few years, the family decided to move a little west to the town of Farmersville, where his story truly came to life.

He attended Snowden Elementary and Exeter High School, where he made countless lifelong friends and hunting buddies. Best of all, he met the love of his life, Dorcus, through one of his childhood friends, Tom Pollard—who just happened to be her brother.

Loyd was drafted into the United States Army in 1965 and served two years as a tank mechanic in Germany. When he returned home from his service, he and Dorcas continued dating until finally deciding to tie the knot on January 27, 1967, after seven years together.

He began his lifelong career at McQuay’s Manufacturing and later became a foreman at Screw Conveyors Pacific Corp., retiring after 30 years. Loyd was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and being part of a 4x4 club that brought families together for adventurous expeditions throughout the Sierra Nevadas. His greatest passion, however, was loading up his hunting dogs every Friday after work and taking them to the mountains to run and tree whatever wild game they could find. As the years went on and that passion slowed, he found joy in being a homebody and being a grandpa.

From sunup to sundown, he was always outside doing something—working on a project, cleaning the dog pens, tending to the property on his riding lawnmower, pruning the trees and plants or relaxing in one of his many hammocks he had scattered around the yard. If he wasn’t outside, he spent countless hours nestled in his recliner next to Dorcus, Rayden, and his little buddy Roscoe. He always had to watch his different news stations to compare weather forecasts, his many different old western channels or certain football teams. Like clockwork, he’d take breaks from the TV to pester Rayden just to make her laugh and smile so she would say his favorite phrase to him: “Oh, Grandpa, you’re a knucklehead.”

He took immense pride in his family and always lit up a room with his mischievous jokes and contagious laughter. He lived a life full of contentment and held a humble appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Loyd is survived by his wife of 58 years Dorcus Mayben, Daughter Tiffany Mayben of Visalia, CA, Granddaughter Rayden Alvarado of Visalia, CA, Sister Lois Mayben of Fresno, CA, Niece, Pamela, and husband, Ron Childress of Porterville, CA , Niece Tina And husband Mike Sharp of Visalia, CA , Niece Chelsey Pollard of Visalia, CA, Niece Joanne, and husband, JoDan Gibbs of Leesville, LA, Nephew Tim, and wife Carolyn Sinor of Virginia, Nephew Tim Mayben of Tennessee, Several great nieces and nephews and two hunting buddies, Dale Johnson, and Bobby Sams, Loyd is proceeded in death by his parents, Father Henry Jewel Mayben, Mother Elsie Pearl Mayben, Sister’s Nancy Mayben, Helen Davis and Velma Maxine Stone., Brother’s William Theodore Mayben and Henry Jewel Mayben Jr., Brother-in-law’s Tomas Ellery Pollard and Gene Stone.
