In Memoriam : Denzel Gann
Denzel Curtis Gann - age: 88

Obituary: Denzel Curtis Gann, 88, of Three Rivers, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20 at Kaweah Health Medical Center in Visalia, CA, from complications related to Parkinson’s Disease. Denzel was born November 11, 1937 in Exeter, CA to the late Fred Lee and Sybil Fern (Coday) Gann. His wife of 69 years, Loda (Utsler) Gann, survives at home. In addition to this wife, he is survived by his son, Steven Gann and wife Nicole; grandchildren Bennett Gann and Leah Gann all of Three Rivers and brother Dempsey Gann of Springdale, AR and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother; his father, who died shortly before his birth; two infant children, Denzel Gann Jr and Baby Girl Gann; his brothers Dean and Don Gann; and his sister Doris (Gann) Guinn. Denzel was the youngest of five siblings. Despite meager beginnings, Denzel provided himself and his family a prosperous life. He graduated Exeter High School in 1956 and shortly thereafter married his sweetheart, Loda. Denzel joined the US Air Force in 1961. He completed aircraft technician training in Chicago and was stationed in Klamath Falls, Oregon to repair F-101 Voodoo fighter jets. At the end of his service, Denzel and Loda returned to the Central Valley. They adopted their son Steve in 1969. Denzel began working for Southern California Edison, moving his family first to Lee Vining, then to Springville, California. After nine years he moved the family to Springfield, Oregon, where he started and ran a ServiceMaster franchise. While in Oregon he was an active member of the Lions Club. In 1994, he sold his business in Oregon and returned to the Valley once again to be close to family. He moved to Three Rivers in 2005 to help raise his grandchildren. Denzel will be ever remembered for his dry humor and wit and his strong belief and faith in God which guided him throughout his life. He served as a deacon in the Baptist church, including most recently the First Baptist Church in Three Rivers, where he was a member until his death. Denzel was dedicated to his family, spending the last 20 years of his life as a strong support for them, especially his grandchildren. He is rejoicing in heaven with his Lord Jesus Christ, finally able to meet his two children who died in infancy.
