A celebration of life gathering will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 11:30am at Exeter Faith Tabernacle’s family center (515 S Filbert Rd Exeter, CA). In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Bristol Hospice and Kaweah Delta’s Ruth Wood’s Open Arms Hospice House in honor of John's memory.

Obituary:
John Wenzil Hurick, 67, of Exeter, California, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, in Visalia, California, surrounded by those he loved.

John was born on August 3, 1959, at a naval base in Japan to Gene and Sally Hurick. He grew up in Armona and Visalia, California, graduating from Mt. Whitney High School in 1978.

John spent his career working with people and building relationships wherever he went. His work included delivery for Coca-Cola, owning and operating convenience stores, being a Producer’s Dairy milkman and manager, and a salesmen for Wonder Ice Cream Company. John had a natural gift for connecting with people. People always said he could “sell ice to an Eskimo,” and he always believed that “no” simply meant “not yet” when it came to sales. He was a hard worker who built lasting friendships with countless people throughout his career.

John was a lover of life and the people in it. He was funny, outgoing, and the life of the party. He never met a stranger and had a way of making people laugh and feel like they had known him forever. He loved working hard, making a sale, mowing lawns for side-hustle money, and most importantly, spending time with the people he loved.

John was married to the love of his life, Mary Hurick, for 40 years. John adored his wife and was always grateful that she had chosen him. Their life together was one of the greatest gifts of his life. He was a loving and incredibly proud father to McKenzi, Bayley, and Bryce. John wanted nothing more than for his children to succeed and have opportunities to enjoy life without having to work as hard as he did. He encouraged them, believed in them, and was always proud of the people they became. And then there were his sweet grandchildren, McKinley and Jaxson, the true apples of his eye. John absolutely adored being their Papa and treasured every moment with them.

John is survived by his wife, Mary Hurick, and his children McKenzi Hurick, Bayley, Nathan, McKinley and Jaxson Howard, and Bryce and Shanti Hurick. He is also survived by his siblings, Michael Hurick, Ronald Hurick, Roger Hurick, and Nancy Hurick-East.

John will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his ability to make friends anywhere he went, his incredible work ethic, and most importantly, his love of family. He leaves behind a lifetime of relationships and memories that will continue to bring laughter and love to those who knew him.
