Memorial service will be held at Rocky Hill Community Church, 259 S. “E” St. Exeter, California on Saturday, April 27, at 11am. Lunch will follow at the Church. A family BBQ and remembrance is planned that evening in the home of Steve and Penni Phillips, (559) 594-4872.
Obituary:
Joyce Yvonne Phillips (Sponable) was born on September 22, 1926 with her twin sister Jean Natalie in Syracuse, NY to Cleon and Ruth Sponable.
The year before, her brother Wendell died just before his 7th birthday in May, 1925 of Spinal Meningitis
Joyce and Jean grew up in upstate NY and had a family summer home in Oneida Lake outside of Syracuse. Following the depression they moved to Miami, Fl.
Joyce became a flight attendant in Miami and worked for National Airlines after high school. She also worked for TWA.
She moved with her first husband Victor McAdams (from Denver, Colorado), to Phoenix Arizona. After her divorce she moved to California to care for her parents. There she went to work as a dental assistant and fell in love with her late husband, Richard James Phillips DDS. They loved their RV trips and traveled extensively for many years. They were married for 38 years. She follows him to heaven by one year and 2 days. Her twin and her husband Tom Raubenheimer also preceded Joyce in death.
Joyce and Richard moved to Exeter, from Hemet, California in 2005 to live near son and daughter in law, Steve and Penni Putman-Phillips. Son Richard Phillips Jr died in 2010 leaving widow, Karen Phillips of Ohio. Daughter Nancy and Jeff Brown live in Valencia. There are many grandchildren and great grandchildren from all three of Richard’s children and Joyce loved them as her own. She also has a niece and 2 nephews and a great nephew and two great nieces from her twin Jean Raubenheimer.
