Obituary:
Gary R Bowman was born in Corvallis OR on Aug. 17, 1944 and passed away Feb. 8, 2014. His family moved to Visalia CA as a child. His father and mother started Bowman Furniture Co. He graduated from Redwood High School and College of the Sequoia where he was awarded State Champion in Wrestling. He later worked for the US Forest Dept. as a Ranger. He started and commanded the Chico State Fire Breakers, in which they battled forest fires in the Western United States. He graduated from University Chico State with a Master Degree then returned to Visalia to work for Visalia Unified School District for 30+ years as a Speech Pathologist. During these years, he competed in rodeo's and roping competitions. His passion as a cowboy earned him many trophy buckles and saddles in Team Roping. He was also State Champion Team Roper in the ACTRA. He was a true cowboy and will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents Melvin R Bowman I and Leah Bowman. He is survived by his wife Joy Bowman in Exeter CA. He has one son Melvin R Bowman II and his wife Rena Bowman with two children Dylan Bowman in Visalia CA and Donielle Gallamore in Tulare CA. He has a step son Bert McDonald with four children and a step daughter Amy Cerda with two children in Fresno CA and one sister Myreta LaBounty in Bend OR.

Melvin, I don't know if you remember me, but my parents (Johnnie and Eleanor Sing) were friends with your dad and mom, along with Darrell and Pauline Tarkington. I remember going over to visit you guys at your Grandma's house on Hurley. Anyways, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of you dad. I remember him telling us jokes and we would crack up. My dad passed away about four years ago, so I know how tough it is. Give my condolences to your mom also. Regards, Donnie Sing
