She went to be with the Lord on January 22, 2016 in Visalia. Maria married Pablo Rivera in Coalcoman, Michoacan where the couple lived until coming to the United States in 1985 settling in Exeter. Pablo passed away in March of 2006. In the early days, Maria was a home maker while raising her family; she also worked in the packing house for a while. She was dedicated to God and her church and made sure to visit the Blessed Sacrament daily. She loved being with her sons, daughters and grandchildren. Her hobbies included crocheting, cooking, inviting friends and family together for fellowship; she was especially known and loved by her homemade tortillas. Survivors include her sons, Martel Rivera & wife Trinidad, Salvador Rivera & wife, Brigida, Jorge Rivera & wife Gladis, all of Exeter; Daughters, Anita Rivera of Exeter, Ofelia Elwood (Rivera) & husband, Chris Elwood of San Diego, Bertha Rivera & husband Miguel Cardenas of Mexico. Grandchildren: Gabriel Rivera, Mayra Rojas, Adriana Rivera, Liz Rivera, and Martel Jr. Rivera, Susan Elwood, Chris Jr. Elwood & wife, Eileen of San Diego; Angela Rivera, Salvador Rivera Jr., Gabriela Rivera, Mona Liza Esquivel, Jorge Martel Rivera, Jorge Rivera, Jr., Denisse Rivera & (fiancé Chris Benavides), Cesar Rivera, Ivan Rivera and Jared Rivera, all of Exeter; Alma Cardenas, Rosio Cardenas, Miguel Cardenas, Rafael Cardenas, Javier Cardenas, Guadalupe Cardenas, Ricardo Cardenas, Jose Jesus Cardenas, Gabriel Cardenas, Laura Cardenas and Manuel Cardenas. 49 great-grandchildren Visitation will be held at Evans-Miller Guinn Chapel, Exeter on Thursday, January 28th, 4-6 p.m. with Rosary following at the chapel at 6 p.m. Mass on Friday, January 29th at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Exeter.
