Obituary:
Juanita was born June 2, 1922 in Missouri and was the daughter of Fred & Mary (Lassley) McCord. Juanita Elam, 95, passed away Sunday, September 24th, 2017 at Kaweah Delta Medical Center. In her early years, she attended high school in Missouri. Often, she spoke of her old family friends which actually included Jessie & Frank James. She remembered being saved from drowning by Pretty Boy Floyd which was her neighbor. She shared so many interesting stories. After migrating to California & at 16 years old she married James Elam. She worked in the San Francisco ship yard during World War II. She & her husband James lived in Utah following construction as contractors and later moved to Exeter area. Later she attended College Of Sequoias seeking an accounting degree, she was a dietician at Kaweah Delta Medical Center and later just before retirement, she was a clerk at Epperson’s Market. Her & James purchased several ranches and built a walnut dehydrating plant and operated those ranches for decades. Juanita had a passion for cooking & canning. She loved her grandchildren and all of her family & friends. When her husband was alive, they traveled throughout the United States. She loved life and she loved God & Jesus and was a Baptist. She was a remarkable lady. During her last days, she often shared that she was ready for her travel home. Preceding her death was her husband, James Edward Elam & her great-grandson Michael Lee Jones. She leaves behind her son, Jack & wife Jeannette, her son, George & wife Patricia & her daughter Joyce, and 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and many friends. As our daughter said, She is in heaven with Grandpa dancing & her great-grandson Michael is playing the guitar. She will be missed.
