Obituary:
Jeremiah “Jerry” Bentley went to be with the Lord on October 21st, 2018. Born in Lake City, Arkansas on April 21, 1940. He later moved to Wilmington, CA where he attended grade school then moved back to Arkansas and graduating from Jonesboro High School in 1957. In 1958 he flew to San Diego to boot camp for the Navy. While serving in the Navy, he sailed to many ports including Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Philippines and Hawaii. He began his career as a Psychiatric Technician at Porterville State Hospital where he met the love of his life, Bobbie and they shared a wonderful life together for 40 years. Early in their marriage, they moved to the Central Coast to work at Atascadero State Hospital where they enjoyed sharing many gatherings with friends and family. After retirement in 1991, they moved to Exeter to be near their daughter, Tammy and grandsons, Tyler & Nate, and started a second career, the Bentley Group home which they operated until 2004. While living in Exeter, he served as Chaplain for the Exeter police Dept. and enjoyed traveling in their RV. Each year he would grow his long gray beard and wear his Santa suit for many Christmas events for the enjoyment of the community. Daily he met for coffee with his buddies from the Spit & Whittle Club. He joins his friend Richard who recently moved to heaven. Jerry will be missed by so many for his kind and gentle heart and his great sense of humor. He had 3 daughters from previous marriage, Suzanne, Melody (Robert) and Jackie. With Bobbie he shared a daughter, Tammy (Michael) and son Roger. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by this parents, Bessie and Roy and his brothers Tom & Larry. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Kaweah Delta Hospital 4 Tower and Optimal Hospice for their loving care. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:00 am at New Life Assembly of God Church, 525 E. Palm St, Exeter.
